RollStart - Safeguarding Policy

RollStart Ltd ("RollStart", "we", "us", "our") is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and secure online environment for children and all users. This policy explains how we safeguard children and vulnerable users, particularly when accounts are managed by parents/guardians.

1. Purpose

The policy ensures that:

• Children under the age of digital consent only use the platform with explcit parental/guardian consent.
• Parents/guardians can manage their child's data, account settings, and online interactions.
• The platform provides a safe, age-appropriate environment for children.
• All safeguarding concerns are reported and handled appropriately.

2. Age Restrictions & Parental/Guardian Accounts

• Global baseline: Users must be at least 13 years old to register independently.
• Country-specific rules:
  • Age 13+: United Kingdom, United States, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Canada
  • Age 14+: Spain, Italy, Austria
  • Age 15+: France
  • Age 16+: Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, and any other country
• Underage accounts: Children who are younger than their country's minimum digital consent age may only use the RollStart Platform through a parent/guardian-managed account. This ensures parental/guardian consent, control of data, and supervision of activity.
• Parent/guardian responsibility: Parents/guardians must provide accurate information, manage the child's privacy and safety preferences, and actively monitor their child's use of the Platform.

3. Parent/guardian and Child Responsibilities

Parents/guardians must:

• Provide accurate information when registering themselves and their children.
• Monitor their child's activity and manage privacy settings.
• Report any content or behaviour they consider unsafe.
• Follow the platform's Community Guidelines.

Children must:

• Avoid sharing personal information beyond what the parent/guardian allows.
• Follow the platform's Community Guidelines.

4. Content and Feature Restrictions for Children

Keeping Children Safe on RollStart:

RollStart includes a range of controls designed to help parents/guardians supervise and manage a child's account and reduce the risk of unwanted contact or inappropriate sharing:

• Private by default: When a parent/guardian creates a child account, the profile is set to Private by default. Private accounts may still appear in search so that approved friends can find them, but the contents of the profile are not visible to others. Visibility options are Private, Friends, and Public.
• Control over what is shown: Parents/guardians can control the visibility of key profile areas (for example Friends, Groups, Videos, Challenges and Achievements) so that parts of a child's activity can remain hidden unless the parent/guardian chooses otherwise.
• Child settings are locked: Children cannot change their own privacy and safety settings. These settings can only be changed by the registered parent/guardian.
• Friend request approval (optional): Parents/guardians can choose whether friend requests must be approved by them, or whether the child may accept/approve requests themselves.
• Video sharing approval (optional): Parents/guardians can choose whether a child needs approval to share videos beyond their private profile (e.g. with friends or publicly), or whether the child can change video visibility without approval.
• Challenge participation approval (optional): Parents/guardians can choose whether joining challenges requires approval. Where approval is required, the child will not appear on the participant list/leaderboard and cannot log activity until approval is given.
• Group join approval (optional): Parents/guardians can choose whether joining groups requires approval, or whether the child may join groups without approval.
• Shared video links: Videos shared using RollStart's share feature remain subject to their visibility settings and can only be viewed by RollStart members who are signed in and permitted to view that video.
• Removal of location metadata: Where present, geolocation metadata is removed during the upload process to reduce the risk of location data being exposed through the platform.
• Reporting and moderation: Each video includes a reporting option. Reported videos are withdrawn from view while they are reviewed by human moderators.
• Adult-only group creation: Users must be 18 or over to create a group on RollStart.
• Child account naming options: Parents/guardians can choose to reduce how much of a child's name is displayed (for example by using initials and/or a nickname) to help protect a child's identity.
• Parent/guardian notifications: To support transparency and supervision, parents/guardians receive notifications when a child performs key actions such as sending/receiving friend requests, requesting to join groups, signing up for challenges, creating an individual target challenge, uploading a private video, or requesting a video to be shared more widely. Where approval controls are enabled, actions such as friend connections, group joins and wider video sharing will not become active until the parent/guardian approves them.

5. Reporting Concerns

Parents/guardians or children may report:

• Suspicious or inappropriate content
• Bullying, harassment, or unsafe interactions
• Concerns about other users

Reports can be made via:

• In-platform reporting tools
• Email: help@rollstart.net
• Local authorities if a risk is immediate

6. Staff Responsibilities

All RollStart employees and moderators must:

• Complete safeguarding training appropriate to their role
• Monitor child accounts and community interactions for unsafe content
• Escalate serious concerns to the Safeguarding Officer or authorities

7. Safeguarding Officer

RollStart has a Safeguarding Officer responsible for:

• Ensuring this policy is implemented and updated
• Providing guidance to staff and moderators
• Liaising with external authorities as needed

8. Education & Guidance

RollStart encourages parents/guardians to:

• Teach children safe online behaviour
• Monitor and guide children's interactions on the platform
• Use account controls to set privacy, content, and communication preferences

9. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed at least annually or whenever legal or platform changes require updates.
